I am a musician. So, with that in mind, you have a better idea of why a good music application for my mobiles are so incredibly important to me. I want variety, I want convenience, and at the same time I want to be able to get to, easily, exactly what I want to listen to WHEN I want to listen to it.
Is that too much to ask?
The short answer for music streaming services for most are places like Pandora and Spotify. I like both of these services quite a bit. Spotify’s Premium service is arguably one of the best you’ll find on the market, but in the end the free version can leave a lot to be desired. Like with Pandora, Spotify (and a multitude of copycats) really only end up being a slight step above turning the radio on in the car. And sometimes you really, really need to hear that one specific song to get your day going the right way.
Or when you’re about to punch someone in a Starbucks.
In addition to being a musician, I am an unabashed Google fanboy. Nearly anything they do, even the questionably privacy invading Google Glass, I’m a fan of at some point. The music service they offer, Google Play Music, is honestly one of the best on the market.
This is nothing new. Most of us are introduced to it pretty quickly if we own an Android phone. Upload your music from you’re home computer, buy music through the service, or pay the premium monthly fee and get a versatile and extensive service in the same vein of Spotify. Most people I know with it have used the free version and its 20,000 song limit pretty successfully. There are lots of other online services apart from Spotify. They can entertain you the same way while serving another purpose. These are online casino websites like players paradise slot offering various entertainment activities.
Google, however, its nearly insatiable need to make things bigger and better, has expanded that limit to quite the impressive 50,000 songs. For free. Granted most won’t use all that space, and I’m sure that’s what Google is banking on, but the idea of that option is an amazing thing.
However, what do you do if you honestly have that many songs and don’t want to wait the ridiculous amount of time it would take to upload them all to the cloud?
Enter Muzecast. To put it simply, Muzecast is pretty much just a clone of my all-time, and now dead, music streaming application Audiogalaxy, with a certain number of tweaks that arguably makes it better. Without going into detail as to what Muzecast brings to the table that Audiogalaxy didn’t, here’s the gist of the app overall.
This free app allows you to stream, quickly and in good quality, any music you designate on your home computer. Download the application and follow its instructions that guide your through downloading the Muzecast home server. I had it completely set up and going with my very, very sizeable music collection in an amazingly short amount of time. No uploads, no long waits. As long as you have data connection on your mobile and internet on your home PC, you have access to your music. It’s that simple. And as much as I love Google, this has become my go-to application to listen to my music while I’m out and about. Here’s hoping that they don’t die the death that Dropbox brought to Audiogalaxy in 2012. I’m rooting for you, Muzecast!
